In recent years, many new Holland Drive Condo developments have sprung up in the area, reflecting the vibrancy and popularity of Holland Village.

Since the establishment of the Holland Village MRT station in 2011, the Urban Redevelopment Authority and Singapore Tourism Board have devoted considerable resources to rejuvinate and promote this vibrant lifestyle district. The popularity of the area is further evident in the numerous Holland Drive Condo developments that have been built in recent years.

Covid-19 restrictions have dealt a near-fatal blow to Holland Village, diminishing the bustling vibrancy the area was once known for. Not only have people’s lifestyles changed in response to the pandemic, but the neighbourhood has also faced increased pressure from local residents, who urged authorities to reduce noise pollution. The result has been a sharp decline in the number of liquor licenses issued for the area, and reduced margins for businesses looking to operate in the Holland Drive Condo neighbourhood.

James Peter, manager of Baden—one of the few bars in the district with a license to serve alcohol till late—is being somewhat cautious. “We’ve seen a slight uptick in sales. But most people still aren’t aware of the new Holland Drive Condo parking spots that have opened up,” he says.

Jack & Rai have a fondness for the Wala Wala Bar & Cafe located along the Holland Drive Condo. It was the venue where the popular Singaporean music duo first met and scored their first gig as a duo.

Memories of the past linger heavily when Kannu and his bandmate, Jack Ng, revisit the premise. “I still laugh when I think of how nervous we were on that day. We were so inexperienced and still so green,” he shared.

As it turns out, the gamble worked in their favour and the duo soon found themselves playing in front of capacity crowds at the Wala Wala Bar & Cafe that resides at the Holland Drive Condo.

It was exciting to watch the duo’s local fame grow as they presented their unique brand of folk-inspired jazz to sold-out shows, night after night.

The residents of Holland Drive Condo are certainly abuzz with the opening of their new neighbourhood mall. But the big question is, will this translate to additional support for the businesses who have been around the area for years? Only time will tell. The mall itself is modern and sleek, and boasts a variety of stores, restaurants, and other entertainment venues. It’s expected that the mall will attract more people from outside the Holland Drive Condo community, who may come to shop and explore the area. This could result in more patronage for the existing local businesses, as residents would have another option for services closer to home. There is also the chance that the mall itself will offer employment opportunities for people in the area. It’s safe to say that the opening of the mall has been a great development for Holland Drive Condo and the surrounding area.
