Lendlease and Surbana Jurong partner on digital platform Podium for Development

Lendlease and Surbana Jurong are partnering together to introduce a digital platform, Podium for Development (P4D), in order to provide solutions for the built environment. This platform is set to address various issues associated with the property development, from feasibility through to design and construction, while simultaneously promoting sustainability and constructing with high productivity.

Within the development, you will find premium shops, bistro-style restaurants, a supermarket, and a lifestyle centre. It is an ideal space for relaxing and rejuvenating, with a wide selection of entertainment options. Along with its retail offerings, Raffles Holland V also offers an ideal living environment with its Holland Drive Condo residences. The homes have been designed to offer luxurious living, equipped with premium, modern facilities including a breathtaking sky terrace, infinity pool, and lush gardens. The residences feature floor-to-ceiling windows and the interiors are crafted with modern finishes. Residents can also enjoy the convenience of direct access to Raffles Holland V, making grocery shopping and leisure activities just a few steps away.

KPMG’s 2015 report noted that inadequate communication and collaboration between stakeholders along the value chain created design errors, resulting in construction disputes, while only 31% of projects stayed within 10% of their proposed budgets. Furthermore, a 2017 report by the McKinsey Global Institute shows the construction industry’s annual productivity has only grown by 1% over the past 20 years, significantly contributing to 40% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

In a bid to counter these issues, P4D offers a digital tool to generate building designs that take into account building specifications, suppliers, costs and timings. According to Richard Kuppusamy, the Chief Product Officer for Podium, this automation of the design process “leverages what is replicable and repeatable in building design via computational algorithms and AI,” with the tool able to generate a structural design in 15-20 minutes, rather than the months involved in more traditional methods.

Lendlease is working with Surbana Jurong as its partner to deliver P4D and is in advanced negotiations with other developers and building authorities both in Singapore and globally. Bill Ruh, Chief Executive Officer of Lendlease Digital, explains that “Our ambition for P4D is to reimagine how we create by changing entrenched methodologies and behaviours.”

With P4D, architects, designers and suppliers are able to have greater control over productivity when it comes to the built environment sector, as well as achieving net zero and zero waste outcomes. Yeo Choon Chong, Asean CEO at Surbana Jurong, states that “We are excited about the prospect of collaborating with multiple project stakeholders on the cloud at the design stage.”

Ultimately, P4D seeks to improve the decision-making process in the property sector, whilst minimising construction disputes and helping to achieve net zero and zero waste goals. By streamlining and automating the development process, P4D aims to benefit both communities across the world and the sustainability of the built environment.
